Le Vif and La Libre, two Belgian outlets, both published articles in response to Belgian's recent ruling, which bans religious symbols in universities. Both dismiss entirely the notion that for many Muslim women, what they wear is their own free and apolitical choice. No Muslim women were interviewed or referenced in either piece.⁠⠀

It is fair to raise concerns about oppression that many women do face, but this is a complex discussion, and all voices should be heard to avoid dangerous stereotypes.⁠⠀
