On “framing” and not caring about elephants – a broadcast and podcast by EPER Radio

If we hear a word, it automatically evokes a frame or a group of frames in our mind. It is very difficult, if not impossible, to resist frames. But what is framing exactly and how does it appear in Hungarian media?

In an episode produced in partnership with Community Media Forum Europe for Get the Trolls Out!, Radio EPER explores what framing is, how it appears in the Hungarian press, how it can be recognised and on what scientific and social basis it rests.

The programme features an interview with Dr Anna Szilágyi, an expert in media, politics, and communication. Her research explores the discourse of discrimination and enemy propaganda. Dr Anna Szilágyi has also authored several manuals for Get the Trolls Out! such as ‘Propaganda, Disinformation, And The Power Of Words: Media And Language Use’, ‘Linguistic Self-Defence Guide Against Antisemitism’, and ‘Linguistic Guide Against Islamophobia’.

The podcast also includes a discussion with Dr Bea Bodrogi, the project manager of Get the Trolls Out! Hungarian partner organisation, the Centre for Independent Journalism, and Giulia Dessi of the Media Diversity Institute.

This episode was produced by editorial reporter Tamás Jamriskó and contributor Bernadett Megyesi. It can be listened to and downloaded from the audio stream.
