FLEMISH OPINION SITE EQUATES ISLAM WITH TERRORISM

Doorbraak, a Flemish opinion website, published an article explicitly blaming Islam for being a violent religion that poses security threats to Belgian society.

In this piece, the author claims that terrorism is a central element of the Muslim religion and invites readers to “arm themselves”.

The European Union of Jewish Students (EUJS), GTTO partner in Belgium, wrote a complaint to Doorbraak. They explained that the article was Islamophobic in how it represented Muslims and requested it to be taken down.

EUJS argued that this opinion piece went beyond “the lines of a democratic discussion” and violated their own rules. To suggest that readers should arm themselves against Islam is a statement that incites hatred against Muslims.
