GREEK NEWSPAPER TELLS MACRON TO TAKE DISEASED MUSLIMS TO BED IN REACTION TO A CASE OF SUSPECTED CHOLERA

Makelio.gr, which markets itself as an 'independent' online newspaper in Greece, published a news story about the case of suspected cholera on an  ASL Airlines flight from Algeria to France. Although the artcle itself uses neutral language, its title is a perfect example of hate speech.

'Diseased from Cholera. They brought the virus to Europe. A Mystey with Diseased Ilegals. F*g Macron, take them to your bed. France's soul 'sister' loves infected Islam' - the title of this article is deeply Islamophobic, racist and homphobic. What is worse, it uses the tragic sickness of a young child to spread anti-Muslim hate. 

As this was not the first time Makelio used their platform for such hate, GTTO partner in Greece, Symbiosis wrote a formal letter of complaint to the newspaper. Noting the discrepancy in language between the main body of the article and its title, they asked whether an editor or adnimistrator has changed the title to make it more shoking? They also asked why did Makelio's editors think it was approriate to use a hateful title like this and asked them to remove it. To date, Symbiosis received no reply.
