KARPOS OBJECTS INSENSITIVE CARTOON ON EFSYN

Karpos sent a letter of complaint to the newspaper EFSYN about an antisemitic sketch published on January 16th by Mr. K Grigoriadis. The sketch was comparing what happened in Auschwitz to a law that the Greek government wants to pass concerning the policing of universities. Karpos, in their complaint, explained how using that imagery is devaluing the horrors that occurred in Auschwitz by comparing them to a governmental policy that is in a completely different context.

Comparing Auschwitz with the situation that Greek citizens are experiencing today weakens the symbolism of the Holocaust and equates it with any bad and destructive political choice that occurs in a democracy by a democratically elected government.

In their complaint, Karpos explained: “Your newspaper has an excellent response to fascist practices and events and an approach of respect and pluralism towards all religions and their believers. For this reason, we consider it right to point out the above, considering that you will take care of it.”
