KARPOS SENDS COMPLAINT TO NEWSBREAK FOR HATEFUL ISLAMOPHOBIC ARTICLE

Karpos filed a letter of compliant to NewsBreak regarding a hateful and Islamophobic article published in December 2020 by Mr. Failos Kranidiotis, who is a far-right politician famous for a series of hateful articles targeting homosexuals, Muslims and various social groups.

In his aggressive viewpoint against Muslims, Mr. Kranidiotis stereotypes, insults and incites to violence in his article. He uses sensationalist arguments and sexist language with the aim to persuade the reader that Europe's major enemy is Islam. In the piece he also states that if Muslims don't respect "our women, our mothers and daughters and generally the European culture, then Christian crusaders will reach even the more isolated (Muslim) villages and this time will be also accompanied by Greeks.”

In their complaint, Karpos expressed their concerns: “[w]e were very sad to read Mr. Kranidiotis’s article on NewsBreak, our sadness doesn’t come from the fact that the writer has an aggressive point of view towards Islam and its believers (amongst whom there are Greek citizens, less we forget that it is indeed the religion of some of the Greek citizens) but the fact that a news organisation independent of its size, allows for the spread of false information”.

Karpos also added: “Mr. Kranidiotis’ article is full of unsubstantiated declarations about Islam that aims at validating the position against it. If someone wants to despise or be against something it is their right however spreading false information from a news site is against journalistic ideology and has catastrophic consequences. We are in a position to contradict one by one the arguments made in this article and we are always happy to discuss with you if you would like to.”
