Alain Soral - JULY TROLL OF THE MONTH
Written by Camille Lhopitault from Licra
The Troll of the Month is an incident we choose every month to expose racist and anti-religious haters and to show positive outcomes in the fight against intolerance in Europe.
A week after sanctioning Dieudonné Youtube also removed Alain Soral’s channels
The main reasons for this sanction are the repeated infringements to the community standards and rules. The platform closed “ERTV” and another channel named “ERTV International” alimented by the polemist. For the first one, the removal was said to be « due to severe or repeated contradictions to the rules of Youtube prohibiting the use of contents inciting to hatred ». The second channel closure is explained by the « non-respect of the conditions of use on Youtube ».
In addition, the polemist will not be able to create a new YouTube channel.
Yet, it is not the first time Alain Soral channel was removed. In 2018 because of an outrageous video published, the channel was already suspended. But Soral appealed the decision and his channel came back on Youtube.
About ERTV YouTube channels:
ERTV acronym stands for « Egalité et Réconciliation TV » (« Equality and Reconciliation TV ») since Alain Soral popular website is named “Egalité et Réconciliation”. The main YouTube channel was created in 2010. It had a broad audience with 185 000 followers and around 1 500 videos on it. These videos had about 80 million views. The second channel was less popular but, it had thousands of followers for only 15 videos.
In the context of Black Lives Matter movement and its echoes worldwide, several platforms are trying to address more strictly the issue of hate online.
Licra tweeted: « the suppression of Alain Soral’s Youtube channel Egalité et réconciliation is a great victory: this is the achievement of a long fight against antisemitism and against the spokespersons of online hate speech »
(« La suppression de la chaîne YouTube d’Égalité et Réconciliation d’Alain Soral est pour nous plus qu’une grande victoire : c’est l’aboutissement d’un long combat contre l’antisémitisme et les porte-paroles de la haine sur Internet »).
