Licra Seeks Removal of Rapper’s Antisemitic Music
Lircra has reacted and denounced disturbing antisemitic lyrics used by the young French rapper named “Freeze Corleone”, asking mainstream music platform to remove the music from their services. The lyrics are riddled with antisemitic tropes, with the rapper glorifying Hitler and the Third Reich and referencing conspiracy theories related to the Rothchild’s. The rapper's music can be found on multiple platforms, include YouTube, Google Play Music, Apple Music, Spotify and Amazon Music. Licra has reached out to these platforms to ask for removal of the content.
Furthermore, Licra posted a video on their Twitter account showing all the violent lyrics in “Freeze Corleone’s” music, tagging and requesting music platforms to take the songs down. As of the publishing of this article, the video has been viewed over 1.7 million times. The French Ministry of Interior has also reacted to the incident, suggesting launching a legal complaint. The issue has been covered in the French media on a large scale, with several articles pointing to Licra’s complaint as the initial catalyst (see the Le Parisien article here, and the Times of Israel article here).
Some music platforms have responded to the calls for removal. Deezer, Skyrock and YouTube has removed several of “Freeze Coleone’s” songs, and Universal Music has stopped their partnership with the rap article for distribution.
It is troubling to see a young artist with a large following (“Freeze Corleone” has over 188,000 followers on Twitter) use such clear antisemitism in their lyrics. It is important not only to remove such content from mainstream platforms, but also to bring awareness as to why such lyrics are dangerous. They normalize antisemitism and can lead to real life discrimination and violence.
