MDI Filed Several Complaints Against Far-Right Blog for Inciting Violence and Hate
GTTO partner MDI (Media Diversity Institute) has filed several complaints against a far-right blog for inciting violence and hate. The blog, called Spotting The Serpent’s Tale, published a post on the 13th of October titled: “Diversity: strength or weakness? Brexit as a case-study.” In the piece, she calls for the “cleansing” of those who make Britain multicultural.
GET THE TROLLS OUT CONDEMNS ROD LIDDLE FOR HIS ANTI-MUSLIM COLUMN ON THE SPECTATOR
An article by the columnist Rod Liddle suggesting that Muslims should be prevented from voting in the next general election has caused widespread criticism for its Islamophobic statements. The Media Diversity Institute published an article highlighting how Rod Liddle’s racist statements are far from being isolated, and Get the Trolls Out! joined the Stop Funding Hate campaign, by putting pressure on companies to stop advertising on media outlets that make profit out of hateful articles.
ENORB requests RTBF remove irrelevant religious information on Paris attacker
ENORB, GTTO partner in Belgium, has filed a complaint to the TV channel RTBF for unprofessional conduct. A news bulletin clip and a related article drew attention to the religion of the attacker who stabbed and killed four police officers at Paris’ police headquarters on 3 October 2019 but failed to explain why this was relevant to the story.
DH.be replaces inappropriate image of Muslim woman after ENORB’s complaint
Prompted by a complaint by the European Network On Religious Belief, the Belgian news site DH.be changed a photo used in an article about people’s attitudes towards Muslim head coverings.
Wim de Wit’s anti-Muslim speech goes against the democratic values he says to uphold
Speaking at the annual event of IJzerwake, an organisation uniting radical Flemish nationalists, chairman Wim de Wit delivered a violent anti-Muslim, homophobic, racist, sexist, and antiziganist speech. EUJS, Get The Trolls Out! partner in Belgium, sent a complaint letter to Wim de Wit to express their concern about his words and to highlight the inconsistency between his anti-democratic statements and the Flemish democratic values.

GTTO partner Symbiosis – School of Political Studies of the Council of Europe has filed a report on YouTube requesting the definitive ban of the Konstantinos Plevris’ account for its antisemitic content.
Symbiosis files complaints against two Greek media outlets for spreading anti-Muslim statements by Metropolitan Bishop Amvrosios
In the past few months, the two Greek news sites have shared open letters by the bishop where he attacks Muslims for the opening of a mosque in Athens. Symbiosis, GTTO partner in Greece, filed two complaints to news media outlets Vima Orthodoxias and Proto Thema for giving a platform to anti-Muslim statements by Metropolitan Amvrosios of Kalavryta, a fiery conservative Greek Orthodox bishop.
AMAZON ADVERT FOUND ON TOMMY ROBINSON’S WEBSITE AND REMOVED
An Amazon banner promoting Tommy Robinson’s book is no longer on TR News home page after the Media Diversity Institute filed a complaint to Amazon. MDI sent an official letter of complaint to Amazon asking the online shopping giant “to stop associating its name with the racist statements of Tommy Robinson”.
DH.de publishes harmful generalisation of Salafism
An article spreading harmful generalisations about Salafism in Belgium and the Netherlands has been published by the Belgian news outlet DH.be.
The Get the Trolls Out! partner in Belgium, European Network on Religion and Belief, has submitted a complaint to DH.be requesting significant edits to the article.
LE SOIR’S HEADLINE DISCRIMINATES AGAINST CHINESE MUSLIM POPULATION
Trivialisation often goes hand in hand with discrimination, as is the case in an article by the Belgian newspaper Le Soir, in the article “China and its Muslims, a complicated relationship”.
Get the Trolls Out! Belgian partner European Network on Religion and Belief sent a letter of complaint to Le Soir, requesting the headline is changed. The phrasing “China and its Muslims” stigmatizes and denigrates the Chinese Muslim population, presenting them as a separate part of the country.
Amazon Advertises on Far-right Hate Figure Tommy Robinson’s Website
Tommy Robinson is a far-right, neo-fascist, white nationalist figure from the UK. As a result of a campaign by activists and British MPs, Robinson was banned from all major social media. In response, Robinson set up tr.news to promote his hateful worldview. Recently, tr.news published a banner to advertise Robinson’s book Enemy of the State, featuring the Amazon logo.
EUJS COMPLAINS AGAINST A XENOPHOBIC ALTERNATIVE NEWS OUTLET
Get the Trolls Out! Belgian partner EUJS sent a complaint letter to ReactNieuws.net, a blog that depicts migrants, particularly Muslim migrants, as dangerous criminals.
LICRA FILES LEGAL COMPLAINT AGAINST CHOUARD FOR HOLOCAUST DENIAL
Get the Trolls Out partner Licra and the Union of Jewish Students of France (UEJF) have filed a legal complaint against Yellow Vests activist Etienne Chouard for his antisemitic claims about the gas chambers.
Interviewed on the TV show “Cartes sur table” on “Le Media” online channel, Etienne Chouard, a teacher, blogger and well-known Yellow Vests political activist claimed to have no knowledge about the Holocaust and expressed some ambiguous doubts on the existence of the gas chambers.
